Évolution (2015)
Name: Évolution (2015)
Directed By: Lucile Hadzihalilovic
Subgenre: Thriller
Series: Spooktober 2018 entry #2
Review: The first French entry into our humble blogspace, Évolution presents with an interesting premise: why is the main source of activity in the story's seaside town the hospital? We follow a young lad who, like all of the other boys in town, becomes hospitalized in the aforementioned site. And, wouldn't you know it, but weirdness happens from there! Unfortunately, Évolution happens to be one of those movies where style outweighs substance of the film: it's a gorgeous slow-burn of a movie, but the premise turns out to be scarier than the story itself. If you're a fan of slow-burning, more stylistic/arthouse horror, then you'll likely appreciate this more than, say, someone who tends to more invested in frenetic or quicker-paced films.
Overall Score: 3 out of 5 Chads considering returning to the ocean. Did Évolution scare you? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
