SeriesSpooktober 2019 entry #14; review #45

Review: After a freak accident where he and his daughter fall into an open construction site, Ray Monroe takes his wife and injured daughter to the closest hospital for an evaluation. After having to get a bit pushy with the hospital staff, his daughter is able to be seen for an MRI; he declines to get himself checked out. After falling asleep in the waiting room, Ray finds that no one in the hospital seems to have any clue about his daughter. Growing increasingly unnerved and enraged, Ray seeks to find out what happened to his daughter and will pay any cost to find the truth. Or, will he? Fractured is a psychological thriller and, as such, the horror elements are mostly replaced by tense scenes facilitated by a potentially unreliable narrator. There are twists and turns as the viewer, like Ray, begins to peel back layers of the conspiracy, only to be met with an ending that ruins the fairly solid (if a bit clichéd) buildup. Fractured is not the first or the best entry into this particular subgenre but it would be a fairly interesting one nonetheless if the ending would have been a bit more ambiguous. Since it's not, it will likely leave a bad taste in your mouth, assuming you've got similar tastes to mine. That said, the experience before that final revelatory arc is compelling enough and you'll likely still enjoy some elements even if you found the ending as disappointingly on-the-nose as I did.

Overall Score: 3 out of 5 Chads hiding in suspiciously mismanaged construction sites. Did Fractured scare you? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
