Hotel Inferno
Name: Hotel Inferno
Directed By: Giulio De Santi
Subgenre: Found Footage, Splatter, Supernatural
Series: Spooktober 2018 entry #14
Review: When a hired assassin is called to take care of a mark in a large hotel, he quickly finds out that dark things are stirring inside, and it just might lead him to the depths of Hell itself. Hotel Inferno bill itself as being the "first splatter film in first-person," and that's exactly what you'll get; the film is shot entirely from a first person perspective so you, the viewer, feel like you're the main character in the descent into bloody chaos. It's gimmicky but the balls-to-the-wall pacing make it a compelling feature. The other element of that headline--being a splatter film--absolutely holds up as well and with the added bonus of essentially every effect being practical rather than CGI. That said, with an indie film budget, some of the effects can feel a bit campy, but the film stays fun and doesn't focus on any shot for long enough to feel like you need to criticize it (that much, at least). Hotel Inferno is an explosively ultra-violent, adrenaline rush straight into Hell; basically, it feels like you're watching a (better) live action version of Doom, except that since its own intellectual property it doesn't feel derivative. Splatter/Gorehounds, don't pass this one up!
Overall Score: 3.5 out of 5 Chads hiding from demon-possessed jerks. Did Hotel Inferno scare you? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
