Mandy
Name: Mandy
Directed By: Panos Cosmatos
Subgenre: Surreal Thriller
Series: Spooktober 2018 entry #6
Review: As you can probably assume from the subgenres listed above, Mandy is an acid trip of a horror flick that manages to seamlessly blend arthouse and grindhouse elements into one very unique, very rad flick. The premise is pretty simple: Nic Cage's wife gets kidnapped by a cult; bad things happen, and Nic Cage becomes his Nic Cagiest and sets out to get his bloody revenge. It's the only film I know of that can have one seen with overly long, beautiful, still shots of the landscape in one scene and have Cage getting into a literal chainsaw fight in the next. It's strange, you'll likely walk away a little confused, but the movie will stick with you. 4 Stars: I recommend it because, well, it's an arthouse horror with Nic Cage screaming for 2 minutes straight while downing most of a bottle of vodka before going crazy and killing cultists--I'm guessing you probably haven't seen something like that before.
Overall Score: 4 out of 5 Chads dressed in leather and out for revenge. Did Mandy scare you? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
