Review: If you're like me, then you've probably never heard of Spring. I only came across it after seeing a recommendation from a college buddy Cody via his film review site CineSnob--I definitely recommend checking them out if you want to see more film reviews by people who actually know what they're doing. Anyway, Spring is about an American man who travels to Italy following a series of unfortunate events. There, he develops a relationship with a woman whose secret to staying young, vibrant, and beautiful is quite a bit more shocking than he would have ever imagined. Spring is, essentially, a Lovecraftian love story; the characters are charming, the dialogue is fun, the plot is a very unique take on your garden variety cosmic horror, and the effects are done well enough to leave a mark. While it's definitely a slow burn--and factor that into your own expectations before heading in--it's an easy recommendation, especially for fans of Lovecraft and/or movies that take some time building up tension. And for a movie that pays homage to master of cosmic dread via human insignificance, the movie has a strangely...hopeful quality to it. It's not a quintessential horror movie, but because it merges what I previously thought were mutually exclusive (sub)genres, it's an easy recommendation from me.

Overall Score: 4 out of 5 Chads afraid of what this may have awakened in them. Did Spring scare you? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
