Series: Spooktober 2020 entry #15; review #77
Review: So, Kevin James is a Nazi. As a reminder, Nazis are bad. So, vis-à-vis, Kevin James is a bad guy. Well, his character is; you know what I'm saying. Becky is about the eponymous teenage girl who kicks Kevin James's Nazi ass in a variety of gruesome ways. Seriously, the violence and gore are strong in this one. While Becky's character is multilayered and incredibly well-acted, the Nazi's just weren't... evil enough? Weird, I know. But the film's brand of Nazism is almost palatable: it substitutes generic violence in place of the more stomach-churning beliefs they espouse. Thankfully, his speech toward the end plays off of that sympathetic aspect and showcases how tempting the cult can be for the disenfranchised. But who am I kidding: you're not watching this for the social commentary; you're here to see a teenage girl brutally kill some fascists. Given the current (as of originally writing this review in 2020) election season miasma in the air, the simple premise was a breath of fresh, patriotic air. Becky did her part to make America great again.
Overall Score: 3.5 out of 5 Chads tripping over dead Nazis. Did Becky scare you? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
