SeriesSpooktober 2020 entry #7; review #69

Review: Hubie Halloween follows the eponymous exploits of Hubie Dubois, the self-proclaimed safety monitor of Halloween. Hubie's Halloween takes a turn for the curious when folks around town start going missing. Now, you're probably looking at Adam Sandler at the helm and thinking that the film will be another paint-by-numbers Happy Madison flick with a Halloween-colored veneer. Well, you'd be right: Hubie Halloween isn't a good movie; it's actually exceedingly easy to shit on. But, it's also not a bad movie as long as your expectations are set appropriately, which is to say: a PG-13 horror-adjacent comedy made for younger audiences and those who think funny accents (on loan from the Water Boy) are, well, funny. It's far from hilarious, yet it's got a peculiar (if expected) wholesomeness about it that kept me rooting for Hubie and his magitech thermos. Hubie Halloween is not a horror movie, but it's an aggressively harmless Halloween movie that might fit the bill if if you're looking for a mindless popcorn-flick with our favorite holiday aesthetic, some cheap laughs, and a feel-good conclusion. It's fine.

Overall Score: 2.5 out of 5 Chads protecting Halloween with lunchware. Did Hubie Halloween scare you? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
