Subgenre: PG-13 Comedy Creature Feature

SeriesSpooktober 2020 entry #2; review #64

Review: Vampires vs. The Bronx is pretty much what it says on the tin: four teenagers defend their neighborhood from a bunch of bloodsucking parasites. It's essentially The Goonies meets A Vampire in Brooklyn; it's a PG-13 romp through some well-trodden tropes rehashed in a delightfully refreshing (and subtext-thick) way. While relatively thin in terms of actual scares and understandably predictable, the film has atmosphere and character to spare. Vampires vs. the Bronx is a great film for those trying to introduce younger audiences to the horror genre (or older audiences who don't really resonate with more intentionally scary films), both in terms of lacking more adult content while remaining consistent with horror aesthetics, and because of the film hosts an incredibly diverse cast (in true Bronx fashion). Bonus Wife Review: "It's so good! It's fun and just campy enough not to be obnoxious. It's like Little Monsters but with vampires and less romance. Oh, and I'm mad at you for not giving it 5 out of 5 whatevers."

Overall Score: 4 out of 5 Chads clutching bottles of stolen holy water. Did Vampires vs. the Bronx scare you? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
