Name :  Évolution (2015) Directed   By :  Lucile Hadzihalilovic  Subgenre : Thriller Series :  Spooktober 2018 entry #2 Review : The first French entry into our humble blogspace, É volution presents with an interesting premise: why is the main source of activity in the story's seaside town the hospital? I went in blind with this one, knowing nothing about the plot (and the fact that it's based on the Lewis Barnavelt series of young-adult novels), but I ended up having way more fun than I expected. Plot-wise, it follows young Lewis Barnavelt as he moves into a mysterious manor and home to his uncle (Jack Black) who also happens to be a warlock. Magical shenanigans ensue from there. The film is essentially a monster mashup of Harry Potter and Goosebumps. While it has some suitably dark moments...
